Pangzhen Township: Confirmed Location
Pangzhen Township is a perpetually rain-drenched key location rebuilt from ancient-town scans with ray tracing and NVIDIA DLSS 4.
What is Pangzhen Township?
Pangzhen Township is a key location in Phantom Blade Zero, and the only place in the game’s official name set that the publisher has described in real detail. S-GAME’s own account of the location’s production states three things about it directly: the township is perpetually rain-drenched, it was rebuilt with NVIDIA DLSS 4 and ray tracing, and its environment uses high-precision 3D models based on scans of multiple ancient Chinese towns.
It also has a lineage the publisher makes explicit. The location is the once hand-drawn Pang Town from Rainblood, an earlier S-GAME title released in 2010 and the origin of the Phantom Blade Zero IP. The official account establishes that descent directly, which makes Pangzhen the one place where the game can be traced back to a concrete prior work rather than only to a style label.
The rain is not set dressing in the summary of the journey either. The official store copy describes the route Soul takes through “rain and blood, kindness and vengeance; love and hatred intertwined in search of a heart” — the same rain that drenches the township is the weather of the whole sixty-six-day crossing. The locations overview keeps Pangzhen listed as a key location and keeps the rest of the official names at the weaker level of “named.”
How was Pangzhen rebuilt?
S-GAME says Pangzhen Township was rebuilt with ray tracing and NVIDIA DLSS 4, and that its environment uses high-precision 3D models based on scans of multiple ancient Chinese towns. The technical account comes from S-GAME’s “Return to Pangzhen” RTX reveal, and the PC performance guide carries the wider graphics story: Unreal Engine 5, DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation, and S-GAME’s own statement that it put additional effort into preserving as much visual impact as possible without relying on ray tracing.
That last point matters for how the location reads. Ray tracing is an enhancement in the publisher’s own framing, not the thing holding the image together — which is a claim about the presentation of the game as a whole, and is not a statement about Pangzhen’s own performance on any given machine.

What does Pangzhen sit inside?
The township sits inside the world Soul is hunted through. Framed for murdering his master and left with sixty-six days to live after a wound to the heart, Soul roams the Wulin alone to unravel a conspiracy that has ensnored the martial world. The combat and systems guide covers the confirmed framework he fights in — the absence of a stamina bar, the Sha-Chi resource, and the dodge, deflect, counter, and strike flow.
The setting label S-GAME uses for that world is KungfuPunk: martial arts, cold steel, mechanical prosthetics, crumbling industrial ruins, Chinese aesthetics, and modern rock music. Pangzhen’s scanned-ancient-town reconstruction and its rain are concrete instances of that style, which is why the location is often the clearest illustration of the term. The weapons overview records the progression side — more than 30 primary weapons and more than 20 Phantom Edges taken from defeated foes, with each weapon bound to a boss per the 4Gamer interview, implying at least 50 bosses.
What is still unknown about Pangzhen?
No official map, area size, unlock order, district list, or list of Pangzhen subregions has been published. Its confirmed role and production history do not turn architectural images into named map areas.
The one thing that is genuinely unrevealed and specific here is who fights there. Mó Yuan, Seven Stars, Seven Stars Sword Formation, String Puppet, and The Hunt are the officially named encounters, and none of them has been assigned to Pangzhen by any first-party statement. The official content status keeps that separation explicit, and the endings and story guide records that no ending has been published either.
