Soul: Protagonist Profile
Soul is Phantom Blade Zero's playable protagonist, framed for murdering his master and left with sixty-six days to live.
Who is Soul?
Soul is Phantom Blade Zero’s protagonist and the only playable character confirmed in the official material reviewed here. He is framed for murdering his master, then suffers a devastating wound to the heart that leaves him sixty-six days to live. Alone and hunted, he roams the Wulin to unravel the conspiracy surrounding him.
The sixty-six-day premise is a story fact, not evidence for an announced real-time countdown mechanic. S-GAME’s store description does not explain how the number is represented in gameplay, so this page does not turn it into a timer, calendar, or ending condition.
What is confirmed about Soul’s role?
Official storefronts consistently describe the player as Soul. No second playable character, character-switching system, or party roster is confirmed in the approved sources. “Only playable character confirmed” therefore describes the current disclosure state, not a promise that the released game can never reveal another mode.
| Confirmed | Not established by these sources |
|---|---|
| Protagonist and playable warrior | Multiple playable characters |
| Framed for murdering his master | Identity of the true killer |
| Heart wound and sixty-six days to live | A real-time countdown mechanic |
| Alone and hunted in the Wulin | Complete ally or enemy roster |
What is known about Soul’s relationships?
Mó Yuan is Soul’s father and the Leader of the Bastion of Mó. The Hunt is described as a former comrade, encountered in a fight on a speeding wagon during the opening. Soul is also the player character through whom the weapon and combat systems are presented.
No other playable protagonist has been confirmed. Donnie Yen and Qiwei “Soulframe” Liang are real people attached to the production, not characters in the game: Yen performs Mó Yuan and advises on action design, and Liang is S-GAME’s founder and game director.
How does Soul fight?
Official store copy describes combat as a seamless flow of dodging, deflecting, countering, and striking. The combat and systems guide covers Sha-Chi, the absence of a stamina bar, and weapons obtained from bosses. The weapons overview records the 30-plus primary weapons and 20-plus Phantom Edges, and the fact that none of them has a published name.
Soul is also the point through which the game’s KungfuPunk world is introduced: wuxia storytelling, punk fantasy, cold steel, mechanical prosthetics, industrial ruins, Chinese aesthetics, and modern rock. Those are the publisher’s own descriptors of the setting and the style.r him.
